2. Get in Character

  • Put myself in the shoes of the user

3. Understand the problem

Create scenarios regarding use of the product.

  • What would be needed

  • Be frustrating

  • What aspects of the solution would have to be examined

4. Competitive research/analysis

  • Find out if there is a product like this out already

  • Pros/Cons

  • How the idea could be different

6. User interviews

  • Find people who have had similar issues

  • Ask questions for deeper understanding

9. Additional testing

  • User testing using prototype to find issues

  • A/B testing for some design decisions

  • Accessibility decisions

11. Follow up with team(s) for questions about designs and decisions

  • Structure time for Q&A meetings with team(s)

7. User personas/flow chart

  • Create persona with background information

  • Create a scenario to use product and create chart of usability

5. User questions/stories

  • Craft questions for potential users

  • Craft ideas and stories of potential situations users face

8. Wireframes to prototyping

  • Create sketches, wireframes and prototype for users to test in real time

10. Design hand off to additional teams (if needed)

  • Create design docs with specs for hand off
